Are unsalted, shelled pistachios safe for dogs?

While unsalted and shelled pistachios are not technically toxic like Macadamia nuts, they are still not recommended. Pistachios are exceptionally high in fat, which can cause gastrointestinal upset or lead to severe pancreatitis. More importantly, they are prone to developing Aspergillus mold, which produces aflatoxins that can cause irreversible liver damage in dogs even in small amounts.

What happens if a dog swallows a pistachio with the shell?

Swallowing a pistachio shell is a major health risk.
